Mental health care for Ontario children and youth face a series of challenges including program cuts due to chronic under funding; skyrocketing hospitalization rates; and, long waiting lists for treatment that continue to grow.

As many as 5 out of 6 kids with mental health issues don’t get the treatment they need.

Oxford County Drug Strategy Project Steering Committee


Persons with lived experience to advise the Oxford County Drug Strategy Project Steering Committee


The Oxford County Drug Strategy is seeking Persons With Lived Experience to participate on the Oxford County Drug Strategy Steering Committee. Your knowledge, skills and expertise will be crucial in the development of a local drug strategy, including an overdose response plan for Oxford County.

We are seeking people who

  • Use drugs or have used drugs and/or family members of people who use drugs
  • Are dependable and willing to work in partnership with local agencies, first responders and people who use drugs (PWUD)
  • Will actively participate in monthly meetings
  • It is anticipated that approximately 5 hrs. of your time will be required each month to attend meetings and review documents
  • Are interested in sharing insights and expertise about their lived experiences in ways can inform prevention, treatment and harm reduction work in Oxford County

This is a volunteer position, but includes payment of a $50 honorarium for each meeting attended as a token of appreciation for your time and expertise. In addition, travel expenses to attend Project Steering Committee meetings will also be reimbursed.

This week at the health centre

It is another busy week at the Oxford County Community Heath Centre. January 29th to February 2nd

Monday –  Cre8tive Journeys (1:00 to 4:00) and the second week of Keeping your bones strong.

Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday – Outreach Drop-In (9:00 to 11:00)

Wednesday – Walk-in counselling (9:00 to noon), Indoor walking program (Cowan Park 11:00 to noon), Soul Write (6:30 to 7:30), Garden Fresh Box purchase deadline.

Thursday – Addiction walk in (1:00 to 2:00), Outreach at the Upper Deck in Tillsonburg (1:00 to 2:30) and Craving Change continues.

Friday – Meet David on Street Outreach at from noon to 2:00.  Stay tuned to see if the groundhogs see their shadows…

Tomorrow’s Chefs

We’re full!  There has been a great response to this new cooking program and we are full.

We do have many other great kids cooking programs available to try – March Break and Easter Monday Cooking School, along with PA Day Cooking Schools in Woodstock and Mt. Elgin and just for guys – we have Boys’ Cooking Group in August.  Check out all of those programs at the Programs Page.


Tomorrow’s Chefs is a 5 session cooking program for young people.  You will learn basic food safety skills, cooking and baking and reading recipes – and much more.

The sessions are planned and run by a group of students who have tons of experience in cooking programs at the health centre.  Leading the team is Jessie, a graduate of the food and nutrition program at Western University (Brescia College).  Each session builds on the previous one, so we request that participants come for all 5.

Sessions happen on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, staring on February 21st at the Oxford County Community Health Centre – from 6 to 8:30pm.
