Mental Health & Addictions

If you have a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner at the OCCHC:

The Oxford County Community Health Centre provides a range of mental health and addiction resources and supports. If you are a rostered patient of the CHC with an assigned medical care provider (Doctor or Nurse Practitioner), please inquire directly with your provider.

Mental Health Counselling

  • Mental health includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act, and helps to determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make choices.
  • Counselling can be a supportive resource for helping clients to cope more easily with day-to-day life and work towards personal goals.
  • Some common concerns that clients often seek support for in counselling include:
    • Anxiety
    • Depression
    • Trauma
    • Grief
    • Relationship challenges

Addiction and Substance Use Counselling

  • Substance use counselling can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge needed to recover from addiction.
  • Substance use counselling involves the facilitation of education, skills development, and mental health interventions by a qualified counselling professional, helping individuals to understand and change behaviours that maintain cycles of addiction.

If you do NOT have a Doctor or Nurse Practitioner at the OCCHC:

Oxford County has several options for free counselling in the community. If you are employed or a student full time, you may also have options through an Employee Assistance Program or through extended benefits.

Mental Health Counselling:

  • Oxford Talk in Counselling offers single sessions at multiple locations and times. No referral is necessary, appointments are available over phone, in person and virtual. Prebooking is required.
